Scale

How to use this calculator

  1. Add a row for each course.
  2. Pick the grade (A+ through F) and enter credit hours.
  3. Toggle weighted mode if your school adds extra points for honors/AP/IB.
  4. Your GPA updates live as you type.

The formula

GPA = Σ (grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ (credit hours). Standard 4.0 scale: A=4.0, A−=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B−=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, C−=1.7, D+=1.3, D=1.0, F=0. Weighted scales typically add 0.5–1.0 for advanced courses.

Worked example

Three 3-credit courses with grades A (4.0), B+ (3.3), B (3.0): (4.0×3 + 3.3×3 + 3.0×3) ÷ 9 = 30.9 ÷ 9 = 3.43 GPA.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted GPA caps at 4.0 for all courses. Weighted GPA adds bonus points (often +0.5 or +1.0) for honors, AP, or IB classes, so it can exceed 4.0. Colleges often recalculate it their own way.

How do I raise my GPA?

Because GPA is credit-weighted, high-credit courses move it most. Use the calculator to test scenarios: enter your current courses, then change a grade to see the impact before finals.

Do plus/minus grades count?

At most schools, yes — an A− (3.7) differs from an A (4.0). This calculator includes plus/minus grades by default.

Are my grades stored anywhere?

No. All computation happens locally in your browser. Your grades never leave your device.
