Private by design: this tool runs 100% in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent, stored, or tracked.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the bill amount.
- Enter the tip percentage (18% is a common default).
- Enter the number of people splitting (1 for no split).
- See the tip, total, and each person's share instantly.
The formula
Tip = bill × (tip percent ÷ 100). Total = bill + tip. Each person's share = total ÷ number of people.
Worked example
An $85 bill with an 18% tip split 3 ways: tip = $15.30, total = $100.30, each pays $33.43.

Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
15–20% is standard for table service in the US; 10% for casual counter service. Customs vary widely by country — when in doubt, ask a local.
Do I tip before or after tax?
Customarily on the pre-tax subtotal. Tipping on the taxed total is a small over-tip most people don't mind, but pre-tax is the norm.
How do we split the bill evenly?
Divide the total (bill + tip) by the number of people — the calculator does it and rounds fairly to the cent.
Can I use it without splitting?
Yes — set people to 1 to see just the tip and total.
Is my bill private?
Yes — the math runs entirely in your browser. Your bill details never leave your device.
