How to use this calculator
- Paste a hex code (with or without #, 3 or 6 digits).
- See RGB, HSL, and a live swatch instantly.
- Or enter R, G, B values (0–255) to convert the other way.
- Click any value to copy it.
The conversion
Each hex pair is a base-16 number for one channel: #FF8800 → R=FF₁₆=255, G=88₁₆=136, B=00₁₆=0, i.e. rgb(255, 136, 0). Shorthand like #F80 expands to #FF8800.
Worked example
#1E90FF (dodger blue) = rgb(30, 144, 255) = hsl(210, 100%, 56%). #FFF = rgb(255, 255, 255), pure white.

Frequently asked questions
What formats are accepted?
#RGB, #RRGGBB, and #RRGGBBAA (with alpha), with or without the leading #. RGB inputs accept 0–255 per channel.
What is HSL and why show it?
HSL (hue, saturation, lightness) describes colors the way humans think about them — useful for creating shades, tints, and harmonious palettes from one base color.
Why do my colors look different on other screens?
Displays vary in calibration and color gamut. Hex/RGB values are device-independent numbers, but rendering depends on the screen — always check on target devices for critical work.
Can I convert named colors?
Type a CSS color name (like 'tomato' or 'rebeccapurple') — the converter recognizes all 148 CSS named colors.
